Pressure Washing Tips and Instructions from Soft Wash Supply House

Power washing has gained popularity over the years and is expected to become even more common. Many people put a lot of effort into cleaning their cars, boats, patios, grills, and home exteriors. By following these pressure washing tips, you can make these tasks easier and faster than your neighbors. Here are some essential power washing tips:

Selecting Nozzles and Tips

  • Choosing the right nozzle or tip is crucial for effective pressure washing. Our machines come with interchangeable spray tips for two purposes: lowering pressure to draw detergent and high-pressure rinsing at different angles. The tips are color-coded (red, yellow, green, and white) and range from 0 to 40 degrees. A smaller angle delivers a more powerful spray, perfect for tough stains. For example, use a 0-degree tip for stubborn smudges on your driveway and a wider angle (25 or 40 degrees) for clearing debris. Ensure the nozzle is securely attached before using the trigger gun to avoid accidents.

Using Approved Chemicals

  • Always use chemicals and cleaning solutions approved for pressure washers. We offer Super Film Remover for car washing and Citrus Degreaser for heavy grease and industrial cleaning. Our pressure washers include a detergent injector for a continuous flow of cleaning solution. Unapproved detergents may harm the environment and damage your equipment. A solution suitable for concrete might not be safe for wood.

Testing the Power

  • Test your pressure washer's power by starting to spray a few feet away from any surface. Gradually move closer to the surface (3-4 feet) and move the wand side-to-side. Check if the surface is clean. If needed, move the wand closer (1-2 feet). Starting too close can damage the surface instead of cleaning it.

Planning Your Cleaning

  • Be cautious around windows, mailboxes, flowers, vents, eaves, and light fixtures. These can break or get damaged if sprayed directly. Keep the trigger gun pointed downwards to avoid spraying under the siding, which can cause it to collapse. Check for any holes, dents, or scratches around windows to prevent water from leaking inside your home.

Pressure Washing Technique

  • Pressure washing is similar to painting. Avoid spraying randomly, which can cause missed spots and waste time. Instead, spray horizontally with smooth left-to-right movements, covering a 3-4 feet wide area. To prevent streaking, start from the top and work your way down.

Pausing Before Rinsing

  • Allow 5 to 10 minutes for the cleaning solution to work, but don't let it dry out. When ready to rinse, start at the top and work towards the bottom until the entire area is detergent-free.

By following these simple steps, your pressure washing tasks will be more efficient and effective, leaving your surfaces sparkling clean.
